Official: Parallel imports start to harm Russian production

TOMSK, Oct 31 (PRIME) – continuation of parallel imports should be justified after they have stabilized the situation on the Russian market but has started to harm local product development, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said on Tuesday during a visit to Siberia.

"The lack of justification of a further use of the parallel imports mechanism, which in many respects has fulfilled its task of stabilization of the goods market, does not help the increase of innovative activity in the producing sector of the economy," Patrushev said.

He said referring to the regions of Siberia that full technological independence had not been achieved, and the research and investment activities of the companies in the highly-technological and research-intensive products had risen marginally.
